About Andy

I am an avid adventurer, conservationist, teacher, and outdoor photographer whose photography celebrates the African landscape and its rich wildlife, people, and culture. My photographic safaris allow my travelers to not only enhance their understanding of photography, lighting, and wildlife, but to develop a life-long admiration for Africa ‘s beauty and culture.

Banana Republic recently used my photographs as the cornerstone of their Urban Safari campaign, and my images were seen in all 750 stores around the globe, as well as in their billboards, catalogs and annual report. I was also the winner of the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the ‘Wild Places’ category in 2008 and a highly commended in the ‘Creative Visions of Nature’ category in 2007.

I launched Gura Gear in 2008, in an attempt to deliver lightweight camera bags to the market. I was looking for a lightweight camera bag to hold all of my photographic gear, and there was nothing desirable on the market that suited my needs. After spending 2 years with many prototypes, the Gura Gear Kiboko bag was born. More products are now available on the Gura Gear web site.

Majestic Leopards Photo Safari - Availability

Majestic Leopards Photo Safari

July 25- August 3, 2011

Greg du Toit is leading an exciting safari in late July that will be focusing primarily on the leopards and lions of the Sabi Sands, South Africa. The Sabi Sands is a private game reserve in the greater Kruger National Park ecosystem, and is home to one of the highest densities of leopards in all of Africa. I have photographed there many times, and I can say that without a doubt it is the best place to load up on photographs of leopards in the wild. The Sabi Sands also has a wonderful concentration of lions.

We do have some spots available on our Majestic Leopards safari in July, so if you are planning your summer (or winter for those on the other side of the equator) you should consider spending time amongst the most beautiful leopards that I know of. These are wild creatures in open spaces, and proper leopard photography takes time. On my past 2 safaris there I have averaged at least 2 leopard sightings *per day*, and most of these sightings are rich photographic opportunities.

Majestic Leopards Photo Safari Highlights

  • July 25 - August 3, 2011
  • We have private vehicles throughout the entire safari, with only 1 person per row of seating (the vehicles have 3 rows behind the driver, plus a seat next to the driver if you want to be lower down to the ground.)
  • Safari is limited to 7 participants - very exclusive.
  • Up to 40 kg’s (88 pounds) of luggage allowance. This is twice the normal luggage allowance to account for the heavy camera equipment needed.
  • Top guides at each camp will accompany us on game drives at both camps.
  • This safari offers superb game viewing and photographic opportunities in some of the best areas for predators in Southern Africa.
  • This itinerary focuses on a real wildlife experience with predators being our main focus - all from the surroundings of your premier accommodations.
  • The Sabi Sand Game Reserve - undoubtedly the best wildlife location in South Africa.
  • Game viewing is done in open 4x4 vehicles, allowing for the very best photographic opportunities.

July is around the corner, and if you have a measurable interest in joining the safari, please send me an email at info@andybiggs.com to learn more or to get signed up.

Greg is an incredible photographer, instructor, guide and all around nice guy. I have included a few of his images below, and I am inspired every time I see his work.
